The Greek word for “serve” is DOULEUO and means to serve as a DOULOS, which signifies bondage or bond servant. Many of the first believers in Christ were slaves and servants and well understood what it meant to put another’s needs, desires and plans ahead of their own. Jesus gave up His life to ransom us all. Jesus came in the world not to be served but to serve. (Mark 10:45) We have been transformed.
At the LWML Convention in Milwaukee in June, we were awed and inspired by the testimonies of the Mites in Action speakers. Reverend Doua Xiong became a Christian in 2006 and graduated from Concordia Seminary in 2016. He serves as a missionary to the Hmong people in the San Joaquin Valley, California. He shares Jesus and inspires others to be leaders and serve Christ. Reverend Dr. Steven Schave is the Executive Director of LAMP. He wept as he shared the tragic conditions of suicide and alcoholism in the Arctic communities and his passion to serve the lost and bring them to Christ.
Our Keynote Speaker, Reverend Dr. Seltz, Director of the Lutheran Center for Religious Liberty, serves as a voice calling out to us in the midst of this world of sin. Reverend Seltz reminds us “that it is our privilege to participate in God’s mission and to use our influential voices in preserving God’s saving work and living out the truth…as people whose God is Yahweh, the Lord.” Reverend Seltz challenges us all to be “Esthers, and rise to action…”
We are all Queen Esthers! Bless all of you as you serve people you come in contact with in your daily lives. At our upcoming Christian life Retreat in October, Sharla Fritz will shepherd us as we explore how God measures and accepts our servant hearts with His Grace.
“Who knows? It’s possible that you became queen for a time just like this.” Esther 4:14
I eagerly await the time we will have together in October: time to share how we serve, embrace, laugh and move forward together as sisters in Christ SERVING our Lord!
In Christ Alone,
